Acting as an Alternate means carrying the coop cell phone and information bag. It also means being able to climb stairs in the event of an emergency so persons with significant disabilities may not be able to serve as an Alternate. We are in dire need of additional members to help. Many members of the Committee are quite restricted in the hours they can assist with placing more pressure on others to help out.

The Alternates work:

• on alternate weekends from 4:30 Friday until Monday morning while the Superintendent if off duty.

• work varying shifts from 4-10 hours or overnight shifts

• on weekends when the Super is “on duty”, the alternates open & close from Friday night to Sunday night. That means ensuring all 4th floor doors are locked including washrooms, lounge locked up, laundry/meeting room automatic doors locked. This takes less than 5-10 mins. but is nevertheless necessary.

• Alternates also cover most Stat holidays that occur on Mondays or Fridays.

• Alternates have a handbook to assist them with contacts for everything from plumbers, electricians, elevator repair persons etc. as well as procedures for fire and other emergencies. If a repair can wait until the next business week, we leave it for the regular staff and advise them of the issue.

• Alternates maintain a record for occurrences.

 

On balance, calls are quite uncommon and dealt with quickly. Most are not serious and some are hilarious!
